Harry makes solid Spanish Supersport championship debut in Jerez
Harry Khouri made a positive start to his ESBK Supersport season at the Jerez Circuit in Southern Spain this past weekend, improving throughout the event to narrowly miss out on championship points on his debut with Andotrans Team Torrento.
Using Thursday and Friday’s Free Practice Sessions to work on set-up Harry was immediately faster than when he tested at the iconic venue. Working well with the team he qualified seventeenth, which placed him in the thick of the action on row six of the grid for the two sixteen lap races.
Running just outside of the points in Saturday’s opening encounter, the #34 Yamaha rider was forced to retire after a small technical issue occurred a handful of laps from the end.
Harry finished Sunday’s race in a more than respectable sixteenth position after a race long battle for fourteenth. He is now fully focused on maintaining his off-track fitness as he prepares for Round Two of the series at MotorLand Aragon in a couple of weeks.
Harry Khouri:
“Qualifying was actually pretty positive. It was my first time on the full Next Generation Supersport machine and I improved my lap time by over a second, which was good. I didn’t make the best start in race one. I ran wide a couple of times and couldn’t really get into a rhythm in the first few laps. I was able to get hooked up by the middle of the race and even though I’d lost the lead group, I was able to fight for P15 before a small tech issue. I made a lot of improvements on Sunday and finished my first race. I am learning every time I ride and that’s the main thing. I want to thank the team and my sponsors. I am looking forward to the next round in a couple of weeks and to be further up the grid.”
